私が中学生だった1990年代前半には、民法改正要綱を答申するための法制審議会が開かれていました。メディアでも、選択的夫婦別姓（※Unfiltered 注）のことが報道されていたので、気になっていました。
「なぜ女性ばかり姓を変えるのか」ということに疑問を抱いていたのですが、そのことに関して話をできる人が周りにいませんでした。
もやもやした気持ちのまま高校に進学したところ、家庭科の先生が授業でこの話を取り上げてくれました。
当時、家庭科は女子だけが受ける授業。結婚しても改姓したくない同級生が他にもいたので、自分だけではないこと、自分の考えは間違っていない、という確信が持てました。
選択的夫婦別姓の問題をもっと学びたいと思ったので、メディアで広く発言していた立命館大学の二宮周平先生のゼミを迷わず選択。家族法やジェンダー論を学びましたが、学びを深めるためにイギリスの大学院へ進みました。

快晴だがビル風が強く叩きつけた２０２１年３月１４日、幸子さん（３０代、仮名）は都内新宿区の大久保公園で実施された「女性による女性のための相談会」に現れた。
新型コロナ感染が拡大する中で、短期契約の仕事も見つからなくなり家賃を２カ月滞納しているという。住宅確保給付金はとりあえず申請したが、所持金は３千円と小銭だけ。話を聞くと、こんな事情があった－。
幸子さんは、中学生の時から細胞に関する研究書などを読み漁り、高校では成績も良く、生物学者を目指して猛勉強した。世界の偉人伝シリーズで魅せられたのは「ファーブル昆虫記」や「シートン動物記」。生物の起源が神秘的だった。
富や名声には全く関心を持たなかったが、知識や情報には貪欲だったという。これには訳がある。幸子さんにとって、本の世界だけが唯一、家にいても安らげる場所だったからだ。
両親からの虐待
